We visited every house in the village and checked their animals and dealt with several problems. During the time in Ladakh we also visited a couple of schools we spent some time with the children talking to them about their animals, the importance of keeping them healthy, and some of the tools that I use as a vet. They all took turns listening to the heart sounds of a lamb through my stethoscope.
At one school this was followed by treating their parents’ animals. I was also able to undertake some basic surveys, which hopefully will be useful to future teams. When I left Leh it was with mixed emotions. I was glad to be coming home, seeing my family and having a bath! However, I had had a fantastic time; met some wonderful people; seen some great scenery; and learnt so much in various ways.
